SOMETIMES, WE TRY TO DO SO MANY THINGS AT THE SAME TIME AND WE WONDER WHY WE FEEL STRESSED?
Looking back, when I was caring for my father in the months before his passing, I tried to be everything to everyone. I was launching my coaching business at the same time I was trying to care for him, look after the household and everyday challenges. We often don’t even realize we are heading towards a burn out or on a downward spiral. Would you know if it were you?
If I was coaching a client through that period of my life, I would be asking them what is really important to them in that moment. I would create a safe space for them to open up and to delve below the surface emotions to really find true clarity and peace.
When I started writing this page, I wanted to ensure you get to know the real me, and hopefully I can answer the questions you would want to ask me.
SO HERE GOES...
ANKE, WHAT CHALLENGES OR EXPERIENCES HAVE YOU OVERCOME IN YOUR OWN LIFE?
Too many if I am honest but each experience has shaped me into who I am today. And for that, I am always grateful. I have suffered with physical pain including chronic neck pain and migraines that literally had me in tears more times than I can count.
I entered an addictive cycle while enjoying life a little too hard when I used to work in the corporate world as well as living with anxiety, phobias and not to mention caring for both of my terminally ill parents.
YOU GREW UP IN GERMANY AND LIVED IN LONDON FOR 24 YEARS, HOW DIFFERENT IS YOUR LIFE NOW?
Now I have been living in Thailand for 4 years with my husband and furry babies and enjoy every single day. And if there are tough times or off days then I remember to pause, reflect and ground myself. Take a few moments to remember how things used to be, think about how much better and happier my life is now and I also think about the people I now help. I am truly honoured to be able to do what I do Life still has its challenges but I have grown, evolved and transformed over the past 25 years and I feel calm and grounded to deal with any situation that life that g throws at me.
IS THERE A PARTICULAR MEMORY OF PHYSICAL PAIN THAT STANDS OUT FOR YOU?
It was 2001, a Tuesday morning, it is only 11am. I am in London in the office supposed to be working on a presentation. instead I am already on my second lot of painkillers and I am now hiding in the bathroom. Tears running down my face; my neck pain is debilitating. Yet again, for the 3rd time this month, I am telling my boss “I am sorry but I need to go home, I am in agony”. Having to then get a train home while tears continue to fall because the pain is excruciating and I don’t know when it will stop. All I wanted was to lie down but I knew that wasn’t going to fix it.
I searched every type of pain expert I could and not just locally in London. I returned home to Germany to spend a month at a back clinic. I was desperate to try anything and everything but with all that time and money I found that whilst some things helped a little, the experts were looking at my symptoms only and not me. So, when I found some relief from my neck pain, I was then hit with debilitating and excruciating migraines which at one point had me in the back of an ambulance on my way to hospital.
I feel so many times people try to treat a symptom, not a person but for me and my clients it is by holding space for the person and helping them to dive beyond the symptoms that real breakthroughs can happen. Its why Deep Transformation coaching has become so important for me.
THIS YEAR YOU PUBLISHED YOUR FIRST BOOK THAT GOT TO NO.1 IN MANY CATEGORIES, WHY DID YOU WRITE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE?
When I looked back on the decades of pain in my life, on the struggles, the highs (even temporary ones) and the lows there were so many moments, so many lessons that shaped who I am today. Many people suggested I write a book and so I did. The reviews and the feedback were so touching. If you have struggled with pain and want to read in more detail my journey to the healthy, pain free life I have now then the book is for you.
IF YOU COULD SPEAK TO YOUR TEENAGE SELF, WHAT WOULD YOU TELL HER?
